Kedah ~ "Rice Bowl" of Malaysia :D

Kedah is one of the oldest states here in Peninsular Malaysia; therefore, it is not absurd to claim that Kedah inherited a very rich cultural heritage and as well as many valuable relics from the early years. For a certain minority of people, they might have a misconception that Kedah is an under developed state due to the reason where there are many padi fields scattered around. However, the actual truth is, Kedah is a rapidly growing state here in Malaysia. With the newly built Alor Setar Tower as Kedah’s landmark, located in the heart of the city under looking the whole area , this misconception is proven wrong as the Alor Setar tower is one of the major attractions here in Kedah.
With Alor Setar as Kedah’s capital and also with11 main administrative districts (Baling, Bandar Baharu, Kota Setar, Kuala Muda, Kubang Pasu, Kulim, Pulau Langkawi, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, Yan), Kedah, which also fondly known as the “Rice Bowl” of Malaysia, is a beautiful multi racial state with many historical cultures and destinations. For any traveler who wishes to enjoy a rich and diverse holiday, Kedah is definitely the place worth visiting here in Malaysia.

Alor Setar :)

Alor Setar is actually the capital of the Kedah state where it is approachable from all parts of Peninsular Malaysia either by road, by sea or by air. Although Alor Setar itself has many modern architectures and shopping complexes, there are still some Thai temples visible around the city. Part of the reason is because Alor Setar is very much in association with Thailand since the early days. Langkawi - Undisputed Legendary Langkawi Isles :D
Langkawi is said to be one of the hot spots for holidays because Langkawi itself inherited an intriguing range of myths and legends. In addition to that, there are plenty of accommodations, beaches and interesting spot to choose from here in Langkawi, therefore, there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

Tasik Dayang Bunting- Lake of The Pregnant Women :)
This lake is actually named such a way is partly due to the reason where the outline and rocky outcrops of the hills at one side of this lake resembles a pregnant woman lying down. The other part of the reason is basically because of a legendary myth between a fairy princess and an earthly man. Here in this lake, there are quite a number of activities to enjoy from, such as enjoying a ride on a banana boat, relaxing at the side of the lake under a tall coconut tree or enjoying a refreshing swim in the lake.

Gunung Jerai :D
Gunung Jerai is the highest peak here in Kedah, soaring high in the sky at 1026 meter above sea level. In order to get to the peak of the mountain from the base, there is a steep and narrow off beaten track here in Gunung Jerai. It is definitely worth while to visit Gunung Jerai although it takes a little more effort and time to get up to the peak, the reason behind this is because the panoramic view of the Kedah coastline at the peak of the mountain will surely leave a fond memory of Gunung Jerai. Besides the picturesque view of the coastline of Kedah at Gunung Jerai, there is also a forestry museum on Gunung Jerai that has exhibits concerning forestry itself. From the museum, there is a path leading to the mountain rock pools and a scenic waterfall where one can relaxes and swims there.

Pantai Merdeka :D
For those who are short on time or not being able to visit Langkawi, the Pantai Merdeka Kedah which is approximately 60 km from the south of Alor Setar is the perfect alternative. This one kilometer long sandy beach shaded by tall swaying palm trees is the perfect destination for one to relax and laze away or for one to enjoy the exciting water sports such as sailing. For people who enjoy camping out on the coral island, the one kilometer long and half kilometer wide Bidan Island located nearby to the Pantai Merdeka Kedah is the perfect answer. For travelers who wish to stay overnight, there is a small 46 room Pantai Merdeka Resort located there.

* For any first timer visiting Kedah, the place mentioned above is a must visit destinations or else the trip to Kedah will be totally meaningless at all.
